I am an international journalist who has spent more than 25 years reporting, writing, producing, and coordinating news on a global level with experience in the field, newsroom and the control room. I have degrees in law, politics and a masters in journalism.
Currently, I am a producer with CGTN America, based in Washington D.C. At a time when relations between Beijing and Washington are central to American domestic and foreign policy, I am at the heart of the story. I craft 30 minute international news shows, featuring top political and business stories. As the D.C. wheel of CGTN, we cover major U.S. developments prominently and our international coverage draws heavily on our team of correspondents throughout the Americas and Africa. We also feature Chinese political perspectives, economic trends and cultural highlights.
Previously, I produced “Newsroom with Michael Holmes” at CNN International. I was responsible not only for crafting the show, but steering the editorial direction of the program. This included story and reporter selection, guest pitches, execution of special segments and integrating graphics into the fabric of the show. I also guided a team of writers, associate producers and technical staff to create a comprehensive, hour-long news program featuring the biggest U.S. and international stories of the day.
I also worked as a package producer for CNN International’s Content Unit. The role involved pitching ideas, writing scripts and requesting and signing off on graphics, as well as overseeing production of the packages to air. Before moving into a producer role in 2005, I copy-edited scripts in the CNN International newsroom.
Back in Ireland, I spent more than three years as a newsroom reporter for RTÉ (Ireland’s National Broadcaster). As a reporter based in Dublin, the work involved covering all aspects of the Irish national agenda including politics, business and social affairs. I had previously worked as a court reporter for “RTE’s Today at Five”. This was a drive-time radio news show and the role involved covering prominent legal cases and providing legal analysis
After college, I worked for BBC Northern Ireland in both the Belfast and Derry newsrooms. I also worked in BBC NI’s Radio Current Affairs Department.
